Investing in People: Updates from our Scholarship Recipients

Beraca Medical Center strives to be self-supporting for day-to-day operations.  However, the very modest fees patients pay for services cannot fund our Charity Care Fund for the destitute, Capital Fund for infrastructure/medical equipment, and our Scholarship Fund for staff advanced training.  During each quarter of 2026, we plan to feature one of these essential funds, beginning with the Scholarship Fund.

For more than 15 years, CMB has been investing in its greatest resource: its people.  Through the Scholarship Fund, we support current staff who want to advance their training in specialties urgently needed at our hospital. In return, they commit to coming back to work at CMB.

A Vision That Continues to Grow

Since its launch, approximately 20 staff members and prospective physicians have benefited from the Scholarship Fund. Currently, 9 professionals are enrolled in advanced training programs.

Among them is Dr. Démé, completing a year of additional orthopedic training in France. When he completes his training, he will work alongside Dr Archélus, strengthening our orthopedic department.

Dr. Dorcély and Dr. Fénélus are currently continuing their education respectively in hospital management and public health.

Dr. Daméus is completing her second year of general surgery residency and will soon join a growing team of three general surgeons at CMB.

We are also proud of a new cohort of three nurses and one doctor who have begun anesthesiology training and will rotate through campuses across the country to gain hands-on experience, a critical investment in safe surgical care.

And we are thrilled to welcome back Dr. Answer Simon, now serving as our internal medicine doctor after completing his three year training in Hopital La Paix in Port-au-Prince.
